I love the maps at the beginning of the book! That’s always a nice start to a book.
I’ve read a lot of historical fiction and sometimes it starts to feel repetitive because so much of it is set during WWII. I appreciate when a historical fiction book is set during a different slice of history and covers a different issue. This excerpt is well written and talks about a period of time when Black people were soldiers yet not free at home.
