Hidden Cargo contains some of the most beautiful, nuanced, and lyrical writing I've read in a while in a First Impression. The discovery of the freedmen's bodies was horrific, yet written in an impactful way so as to shed light on an issue that continues to plague even modern society.
This story, while taking place after the Civil War, could just as easily be written about the back of a tractor-trailer discovered in Texas today. This historical fiction manages to be incredibly timely and I believe is a must-read for today!
