This story appears to be a mystery set in the Spanish Caribbeans in the aftermath of the American civil war. I quite like the setting, and based on the synopsis, am interested in thematic ideas that are being explored. The maps included at the beginning of the book are very cool. I felt though that the first few chapters are a bit slow. We are given a lot of descriptions using pretty specific naval terms that made it a bit hard to follow for me (though I did enjoy learning about them with the liberal help of Google). The main character seems to have an interesting backstory, that I'd be interested in learning more about.
