It's March 2020. Max, a grocery shopper and delivery girl, is in a supermarket trying to get her hands on the last pack of toilet paper available for a customer. Then she meets Jonah, who accuses her of hoarding toilet paper. They talk for a little bit before moving on, but later Jonah sets up a grocery order for Max to deliver to him personally because he wants to keep talking to her. Soon, a random meeting over toilet paper turns into a relationship between Max and Jonah as they try to navigate the world and their socially-distant relationship during a global pandemic.

This took me a long time to get into. It was hard for me to care for the characters in the first half of the story. But I kept going, and while it did get better, I found myself more invested in the side characters of the story (Arlo/Winter, Chester the dog, Olivia). The pacing of the novel was a bit weird for me too, as the last part of the book seemed rushed and there were some parts that were added in unnecessarily (I.e. Ashley/Boat).
