The beginning of this first impression places you in a courtroom with a mother and son being charged with the murder of a different son.

The end is of the son meeting a girl in prison and them hitting it off.

I have so many concerns about this. First off, are the prisons in Zimbabwe really coed? The book makes it seem like they are because American prisons are....American prisons are not coed. My husband used to be a correctional officer and my father is a regional chaplain for prisons.

Second, the synopsis and the first impression don't line up at all. I get no real feel for the characters, whether they feel guilty, justified, or innocent. And then a random girl pops up infatuated with the main guy.

To be honest, the first impression made me think this was going to be a prison love story. I wait to read the synopsis on purpose until after so my judgement isn't clouded by anything.

I also feel as if the cover is misleading. The book says it's about the white minority in Zimbabwe, but the cover conveys a different racial focus.

The book may get better throughout, but I'm definitely not impressed by this first impression.
