Interesting premise, didn't like the writing.

The premise of the story is interesting, I'm intrigued to find out the backstory to the crime that the protagonist and his mother were being tried for in the first scene of the book. Unfortunately, I found the writing of this book lacking. The tone was extremely inconsistent and there are spelling and grammatical errors (unclear if this is due to insufficient editing, or if this is suppose to characterize the voice of the protagonist). There is a mixture of extremely casual language ("pissed off") and very literary vocabulary ("laconic") that was jarring. I think this book could be interesting, but needs more polishing.
