I gave this First Impression a chance, despite a lackluster cover because the promise of a glimpse into a different culture sucked me in. Unfortunately, this story is confusing on so many levels. At first, it appear this will almost be a procedural drama, and possibly a love story. By the end of the Impression, it is apparent that is not true.
The story also purports to focus on the white minority of Zimbabwe, and I looked forward to the characters being confronted with their whiteness as "other." That is also not discussed in any real way, at least during the First Impression.
Overall, the writing is beautiful but the story just falls short for me.
