I adore memoirs and had high hopes for this one - an iconic memory of place from the view of friends, family, and neighbors. Unfortunately the format was not ideal - the back and forth nature of the time periods instead of an order that could have flowed more readily. The stories themselves are captivating, funny, and heartbreaking - it also brought about the need to talk more to our people and record those stories for the purpose of future generations knowing how impactful history has been upon us. It seems that everyone has a Bank Street - that iconic place that people recognize throughout time as a place to recall the good and bad memories. The author’s voice blended well with the storytellers in the book. Although I gave it a 3 star review it was really a matter of the formatting and not the content - the stories would have been more impactful with a different style of formatting.
