Growing up Bank Street is the memoir by Donna Florio. She tells the story of her upbringing in a famous New York Village. I found this memoir very interesting with all of the issues and stories this author mentioned in one text. I have not spent a lot of time in New York so I found this whole book very interesting and different from my own upbringing.
As a college student, pursuing a degree in music, I really loved the mentions of various musicians and arts forms and how they impacted Florios upbringing. I found this whole memoir, easy and engaging to read through the lively descriptions and pictures sprinkled throughout. Florio's descriptions of the people in her life helped them come to life for me and made it very easy to tell one character from another.
The only things I really was not a fan of was that some parts felt that they were dragged on a bit, but this did not happen often.
Overall, I found this a heartwarming read that shows the importance of where and how a person grows up and how that can impact their whole life.
