Nonfiction about an apartment full of interesting characters

This excerpt begins with the author telling us of her parents and her early life. It must have been incredibly interesting, she grew up in the theatre. Her parents loved the theatre and both went on to perform, this lead to the author performing as well. Her dad sounds occasionally volatile. He treated her as though her existence held him back. This led to her seeing her neighbors as extended family.
