The story is one that seem like many young adult books, fun and easy to read with just enough tension to make it interesting. It follows the life of Hudson, a senior in high school who is transitioning from child to young adult.
I do believe that the book will be an interesting read and will give us insight into the life of a teenager expected to be one thing and instead, realizes he is destined to be something else altogether.
Because I only read the first few pages, I do not know if Hudson's loss of his father will play a major role in the book, but I get the feeling that is just a prop in the story. It doesn't feel like it will delve too heavily into that subject.
Part of the marketing states, "a peek into what male adolescence looks like today for those who don't follow traditional paths as they strive to find themselves;" however the author is a woman. Even if she raised boys, how much does she really know about what they think? I suppose I am reading too much into that, but it does make me wonder what she does know about how young males' think.

The cover is understated, but the dashed lines show how easily it can be to get turned around when figuring out who you really are.
