Andra went to sleep expecting to wake up with her parents and siblings on another planet. Instead she woke up a thousand years too late to find the world she expected to find changed and alien. The people view technology as magic, she is held up as a goddess, and what is this political intrigue she has found herself apart of? Zhade has found the Third Goddess and awoken her so he can take the throne that is rightfully his. But Andra is not what he thought she would be.

I want to gush about how much I love this book. It is one of those books I will always recommend to anyone who asks me for a book rec. The Goddess in The Machine has so many elements to it that make it amazing. It is smartly plotted, the characters are well developed, the world building is mind blowing. The author even created a new language of sorts.

Andra was obviously my favorite character. She has flaws and strengths. She is smart and knowledgeable but she still does not have all the answers or makes all the right moves. She messes up and makes mistakes. She leaps off the page and grabs you. Right from the first sentence, I was rooting for Andra, for Andra to live, to get back to Earth, to navigate the new world she found herself on.

I can’t wait for the next book. Lora Beth Johnson has probably just become one of my favorite authors.

Over all, I give this book a 5/5
