I was really enjoying this, until the new dialect really got going. Then I was irritated and distracted for the rest of the book. I've read novels where the author has created a brand new dialect before, and it worked. Here though, it didn't. I found it confusing, and at times, comical. For instance, it appears that all "ly" sounds are replaced with "ish", which means you get things like "legitimat-ish" or "literal-ish", which my brain just finds infinitely irritating.

I did push thought though, and the time I didn't spend agonizing over the dialect was spend loving the characters. Andra is such a firecracker and it's really fun to read. Plus, Zhade is consistently scandalized by things she does for the first chapter or so, and it's hilarious. And that plot twist? Really artfully done. The existence of a twist of its nature was not unexpected, but the details were.

All in all, I would've loved this so much more if not for the separate dialect...
