I enjoyed this book. I don't normally read sci fi or much YA, but this was a nice change for me. It was fun and had a lot of twists and turns, as well as some really nicely fleshed out characters.

One of the elements that I found really compelling (but perhaps wouldn't be for everyone) was the author's use of language. I thought she did an excellent job of creating a language that seemed as though it could have realistically evolved from English. She did a great job of walking a line of making the language understandable while also feeling like it had gone through a significant period of evolution, and that for me was really interesting to read.

I also really enjoyed the main characters and the dynamic that they had. The main perspective of the book is Andra, a girl who wakes up a thousand years in the future from a cryogenic sleep to find she's in a civilization that worships her as a goddess, and occasionally we also get the perspective of Zhade, an exiled bastard prince who has his own motives for helping Andra. I thought these two characters were really well developed and had a great chemistry that was fun to read.

The main criticism that I have is that there were definitely elements and characters that for me felt unexplained or unexplored. In particular I never felt that we got the full story with the characters Maret and Tsurina. I found that I wanted more of a backstory there personally. I definitely felt like the book ended leaving the possibility of a sequel or series (not sure if there is one announced or planned), but as it stands right now I felt there were a couple loose ends that needed tied up.

That being said, I would recommend this book to lovers of YA and sci fi or even if you're a lover of fantasy, the book definitely has fantasy elements to it with a sci fi spin.
