Sci-fi that feels like fantasy
Oh, Zhade. I look forward to you learning to look outside of yourself and become a better person. I really like what's happening so far in this book - the idea of technology as magic and voids that can move and destroy everything they encounter.
The linguistic nerd in me loves what this book does with language, right away - Andra speaks one form of English, soliders speak "High Goddess," which is their understanding of English as it's adapted and changed throughout the centuries, and the villagers speak a separate language. I'm intrigued as I piece together the sentences and concepts in "High Goddess."
This book is sci-fi, but it already feels like fantasy: it's set in the future and relies on advanced technology, but the technology is treated like magic, and there's a usurper on the "throne." There's a quest and a journey, rural villagers - I can't wait to see where it goes.
