A sci-fi book I can definitely get into (and when's the movie!?!?!?)
I used to tell people I hated sci-fi, but lately, I've been really getting into books like this one and "The Vanishing Deep". This book reminds me of the movie "Passengers", where Jennifer Lawrence goes into a deep sleep on a spaceship, the goal being to wake up on a new planet in a certain amount of years (but of course, things go very wrong).
In this first look, the protagonist wakes up 1,000 years later, much later than anticipated, and suddenly she's a planet "goddess" and they all speak words that are unfamiliar to her.
I think what makes this science fiction book so approachable is the author's disciplined used of small, quick paragraphs that cut up the more dense, science-y paragraphs.
I think it seems perfect for a movie, too.
