A Romance Novel Disguised As Historical Fiction
The first chapter of this book has Connie and Theo, sister and brother, spying on a party with erotic dancers. A couple of chapters later Connie is having sex with her guardian when Theo walks in. It seems that interspersed with some history, there is quite a bit of sex.
I don't read romance novels because they all seem to follow the same pattern. I felt it was the same thing in this story. I love historical fiction, James Michener especially, but I would consider this very light history and more romance than anything else.
The author paints general, sweeping pictures of the historical events. I wished he had given us more substance and more history.
If you are a romance reader and want to feel like you are broadening your knowledge of an era, this may be for you. It's just not my cup of tea.
