The opening scene of this book catches my interest right away. A young man and his sister getting into (understandable) mischief when they learn about the dancers that are coming to entertain the men in the banquet hall.

The author uses this start to the story to allow us to learn a little about the characters: the young man, just coming into manhood and curious about women; the sister, curious about the dancers, as well, and how the men react to them, pushing her brother to go. We also learn about the parents and how they react: mom is worried about the family reputation and its effect on finding a suitable husband for her daughter while the dad (not surprisingly) is more understanding of the boy's curiosities.

I liked this sample a lot, and I hope to read more.
