DNF at 31%

This book is one of those that seems to polarize readers. I didn’t hate it but I got so. Bored. I started losing track of what was going on. And since everything seemed to happen when I was getting bored of the book as a whole, it meant that I got confused.
It started strong. Really strong. That was the most interesting part of the book, then it faded away to nothing. It went so far downhill that it didn’t seem like the same book in.
Rielle was absolutely interesting at first and if the story had only followed her, I would have been super happy. She was a BA woman and I was all for that. But then the romance kicked in and that whole thread was lost.
Eliana was interesting, too. But she came across like every other BA character in YA. Aka, says she’s all big and bad but caves in every tough situation she’s put in. And that was annoying since she’s apparently a bounty hunter.
I think the word that sums up this book is romance. Rielle pining after Audric and (maybe??) having a thing for Audric’s betrothed. People have ranted a lot about bad bi rep so I think that was it, but I have no clue. It was mentioned, barely in passing, that Rielle had a fantasy about Audric’s betrothed but, literally, it was one sentence and never talked about again for as much as I had got in.
Eliana had Harkan right away, which I was fine with. I liked their romance. Then something happened and there was Simon (??? I think that was his name) who just sort of turned into a love triangle. Or would potentially become one since I didn’t read far enough.
The cliffhangers at the end of chapters wore thin when I realized that I didn’t care about the characters or what happened to them. I found myself getting confused about the world and what was going on. I just got bored by this book.
Sure, it was written well. It has potential. But I found it so mind-numbingly dull that I willingly worked through my lunch break when I usually would be reading ARCs on my phone.
All in all, it started off interesting and that was about the most interesting part of the book.
