This book grabbed my attention pretty quickly. It follows two young women who know early on that they aren't like everybody else. They are special, but they are afraid of the reactions they'll get so they hide it from everybody. They are as different as you can be and separated in time by hundreds of years. Yet their destinies are intertwined. Both Queens were likeable and I hated wondering how one of them could end up being the Blood Queen. The author wasn't afraid to break your heart once or twice, which I love to see in YA books. I thought it was very well written and the entire magic system was very cool and we'll thought out. I also love the little paragraphs at the beginning of each chapter. That reminded me of Queen of the Tearling.
