Furyborn was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and it did not disappoint! It may even be my favorite read of year so far.

The story is rich in legend and mythology, centering on a prophesy of two powerful queens, one who will come to destroy the world, one who will come as its salvation. We alternate between the narratives of Rielle and Elliana, with every chapter ending on a cliffhanger.

Rielle is the high spirited daughter of the captain of the guard. When she finally reveals her extraordinary magic, she must endure seven impossible trials, and face the demons of her past, to prove that she is the Sun Queen. One thousand years later, Eliana is formidable bounty hunter for the Undying Emperor, and Rielle has become nothing more than a fairy tale. Doing whatever it takes to protect her family, she turns her back on the empire and partners with a leader of the resistance on a mission that is much more than she bargained for.

Legrand skillfully entwines the stories of these two incredible, badass women. I was on the edge of my seat from the first page to the very last. This fast paced adventure had everything I want from a good fantasy: action, magic, believable characters, first class world building, a truly evil villain, romance, and strong female characters that can take care of themselves.

And this isn't one of those stories where we only get a few glimpses of magic here and there. The magic is big, beautiful, and consistently steals the show. And while there were a few predictable plot points, there were more than enough twists and surprises to keep me guessing all the way up to the end. Will be highly recommending this to everyone I know!
