This is at it's core a dystopian drama, but it also has a heavy dose of horror and romance. Two stories of two young girls taking place 1000 years apart are told simultaneously through alternating between chapters, but in the end the overlap becomes clear. Each story could be a book of its own, but there is so much action and drama, that I couldn't wait to get through each chapter to get back to the previous storyline, then that chapter would end on a cliffhanger, hurrying me through the next chapter, so in spite of this being a long book it had me zipping through it.

All of the storylines are written at an intense, high action level, from the romances to the wars, so there really isn't any part of this story that drags.

My only complaint is that I don't want to have to wait for the rest of the trilogy!
