The story started off a fairly typical YA fantasy book: indeterminate time period with a royal figure in distress. I'm always into those types of stories. The 1000 year time jump threw me (because apparently I forgot about the summary and have just been lusting after the cover). It adds a slightly more 'modern' edge to the story. I'm already trying to mentally figure out how these two time periods go together.
