The cover interests me less than the blurb does, though it is attractive and I like the color scheme. The writing is solid in the first forty-one pages and I am interested in the two leads. I do feel like I already have some idea where this is going though, so I would find myself waiting for there to be a twist somewhere along the lines.
Knowing that Rielle will eventually be the Blood Queen, I feel, might make the parts where she's going through her trials to prove she's the Sun Queen feel flat. Of course, I also find myself wondering if the two queens aren't cyclical. If Rielle wasn't originally the Sun Queen but the weight of what had to be done to protect her kingdom didn't eventually mold her into the Blood Queen. If, likewise, Eliana might not start out as someone approaching the path to being the Blood Queen, but then her story line forces her into being the Sun Queen needed to set things right.
I find myself mostly wanting to know where this goes from here and how we get to the point where the protagonists' stories converge. Also, if I'm right about Eliana being the baby from the very beginning.
