I found this book while in the search for new and true Native American depictions in fiction. What a breath of fresh air to read a book that is a mystery thriller where the characters happen to be Native and the narrative is not centered solely on their identity.
Daunis was such a flawed character but in the most relatable ways. She makes mistakes, reflects, and grows as the book goes on. Each of the characters was so well written that I had such a difficult time discerning who actually did it and who was the author just baiting us towards.
The writing style is a bit slower than I would normally like but when there is action, THERE IS ACTION and it all happens so quickly that you are left in shock at the quick shift in pacing. Some of the twists were predictable but not enough that I knew where the ending was headed, which is nice especially in mystery books. Overall a good read that I would recommend.
