This book was not at all what I expected. I was kept on my toes trying to solve the mystery. The romance included was a bonus plus. I loved the relationship between Daunis, and Jamie, but it didn't take to much hold in the story which I loved.
Daunis- Our main character is 18, hockey player, just graduated, and lives in a Michigan. The books starts as she had been dealing with losing people recently. She's biracial who's un enrolled as a tribal member, and was known as being part of a scandal. She navigates between her two families, and the prejudice in her town. I loved Daunis for her pride for both sides of her family, being her confident self, clever, and her love for her family and friends.
You uncover truths of different parts of her life, and the mystery going around her town. The twist and turns had me shocked, because you would never guess it. This book deals with so much issues including drugs, drinking, grief, but it also educated me more on indigenous people. I loved getting know more about their culture, practices, and language. Angeline writing was beautiful to read, and the way she portrayed Daunis made me want to be her friend. This is the perfect YA novel for readers who want a powerful story, but also a bit of a scare.
