This book was just amazing. It follows Daunis, an Ojibwe teenager, as she works with the FBI to investigate a lethal new drug, all the while managing her own grief and emotions. The book is YA, but on the upper edges of the genre, and reads as a standalone mystery novel. The native Indian setting was great, with its traditions, language, and problems woven throughout the story. I even googled the location to get a better visual on what I was reading. This book is hard to put down. It gives you insight into a different culture and how it feels to have one foot firmly in both while it keeps you hanging as a detective novel. I am so excited to hear it will be developed into a series because I need more of this book! It has all the elements to keep you on the edge of your seat and serves as a great YA fiction book that i think teens will thoroughly enjoy like I did.
