Sad but great
This book was an amazing read. It felt immersive and engaging, with great characters and a good hook, as well as an interesting twist.
Set in modern times, it was easy to get into the book. I loved being thrown into the life on the reservation. There was a lot that I did not know, so I appreciated the ways that culture was introduced and explained.
The only thing that I did not like was the ending, but not enough for it to throw off my rating. I just don't understand the choice to have her die. There was already enough Indigenous death shown in the book. I don't think that just because that is the reality for so many people, it needed to happen to our protagonist here.
Still, I thought this was a great story, full of family, love, self exploration and mystery. I would love to know how more indigenous and native readers felt about the depictions of culture included.
