Let me just cement Firekeepers ‘s Daughter into one of my “Top Reads of 2021” slot. The hype is well deserved with this one.

The writing was beautiful, and engaging and hooks you from the start - needless to say I was infuriated I had made PLANS instead of reading this and had to pry myself away from it.

Characters who burrow into your heart. I adored our MC Daunis but also her BFF Lily, her relationship with her mom and grandma, Lily's grandma, all the elders in their community, Daunis' aunt. This book had side characters that shown brightly!

I really enjoyed and appreciated the Inclusion of Ojibwa culture and language and clearly acknowledging the historical treatment of these communities and women. I learned a lot (and learned more specifics of things) and it showed light on injustices. I love that this is YA and accessible for a younger audience but can truly be enjoyed by all.

Excuse me while I join the rest of you trendsetters and throw this book at anyone who will listen to me.
