Oh my gosh. What did I love about Firekeeper's Daughter?
1. The cover. I mean, seriously, how gorgeous is that cover?
2. Daunis. What an incredible protagonist. Smart, powerful, athletic - such a strong character and so relatable and likeable.
3. The Native American point of view - such an important book to fill a huge void in fiction.
4. I mean....I could keep going here, but..... Seriously. Just read it.

This book is outstanding. Definitely one of my top books of the year so far, if not the best. It has everything. It's well written, it's engrossing. I could not put this book down, yet I was so sad to see it end. I loved Daunis' character so much. It's not often you see such a strong female lead and one so smart and capable is even better. I loved that this book introduced me to so many Native words, concepts, and practices. I learned so much while reading it. Unfortunately, it also highlighted so many of the terrible things that happen, in particular to Native women. There is a real lack of awareness of the level of violence that Native women experience and the manner in which is it handled is infuriating. This book shines a very important light on this topic. Once we know better, we can do better. This book is 100% going to be a keeper for me. I've already recommended it - even before finishing it - and will do so many more times. Please read this book. You will not regret it.
