I was kindly sent this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Firekeeper's Daughter was such a surprising book. It moved me in ways I wasn't expecting, and it really struck a chord with me. The main character, Daunis, is biracial (half white and half Ojibwe--Native), and it's something she struggles a lot with throughout the book. As a biracial young adult myself, I related so much to all of her struggles dealing with being biracial. Even though I'm half Chinese and not Native, I can still appreciate the commentary.

In addition to really relating to Daunis, I enjoyed the thriller aspects of this book. I was really invested in the mystery of suspicious drug related deaths in her community. Firekeeper's Daughter managed to combine a coming-of-age story with an engaging mystery that provides commentary of struggles of Native Reservations in modern day.

I highly recommend readers to go and read some #ownvoices reviews from Native readers on Goodreads!
