Y’all, THIS BOOK! I heard so much about it in the weeks leading up to pub day, but let me tell you this book absolutely rose above my expectations. Bonus: while I don’t read many thrillers, I was very in the mood for a thriller.
I have been trying to diversify my bookshelves for YEARS. I know that Native American authors are hugely underrepresented in American publishing especially. But I didn’t buy this book just because the author was Ojibwe. This book sounded SO GOOD!
First, this is an “own voices” novel - a Native author writing about a Native protagonist.
The plot moved FAST! Like, I can’t usually sit still and binge read, but I binge read 300 pages in one afternoon. I couldn’t put it down!!
I absolutely fell in love with the characters!
I gasped while reading this book, I cried multiple times for different reasons, and found the ending so satisfying.
