I wanted to read this book from the second I saw the cover. It is so beautiful and made me excited to read whatever story was inside. This book covers so many topics but it all seems to work and fit together. Daunis is 18 and reassessing her college options after a loss. We also get to see her as a young woman who it straddling two worlds. It was interesting to get a small peek at some of the what makes Daunis love and feel connected to her tribe yet also see how she is held apart from both sides of her heritage in different ways. Daunis truly embraces her Native heritage even though in some ways it hold her at arms length. Daunis intelligence, love of science and background get sucked up into a FBI drug investigation as an informant. This brings into the story some of the obviously conflicted issues of the federal government and tribal lands. It was interesting to read about this both from a modern perspective but also from the viewpoint of a young Native woman. This read a little bit older than YA to me and I am excited to read more from this author in the futures.

Thanks bookish first for the free copy!
