Firekeeper's daughter was a fun, interesting read about a young Native American woman trying to solve a drug-related mystery in her tribe. The plot and mystery was compelling and kept me hooked most the way through. The plot trailed off near the end in some places for me and I thought it could have been a little shorter. I think that would have saved the story from dragging the way it did near the end.

I loved the characters. They were complex and well written and I really understood their personal motivations. They each had a distinct voice and all brought the story together. The writting was also fantastic and really suited for the genre. I loved all of the topics the book covered (culture, heritage, discrimination, drug abuse, SA) and I thought that they were done thoughtfully and respectfully.

Overall this was a great read and would recommend it to people who like YA mystery/contemporary books.
