I loved everything about this book, from the story, the characters, and the messages, to this beautiful cover! Thank you to Angeline Boulley for introducing me to Native American culture through Daunis Fontaine. Not only is she very likable, but she is also strong, sassy, and intelligent. I want to be her friend right off the bat when I read the first few chapters.

I'm usually intimidated when I read 500 pages, but I was invited into Daunis' world with this book. I stayed up until the early morning to finish it. The Nancy Drew vibe got me going to find the culprit(s). My favorite parts were getting to know about the culture and the indigenous community; their issues through the characters' eyes.

On a personal level, Daunis taught me about finding our own identity (she is biracial), protecting our community, and always being curious. Some of the trigger warnings in this book: sexual assault, drugs, and grief. I am impressed that this is Angeline Boulley's debut novel. It was just so good. Firekeeper's Daughter is fierce!
