I was immediately impressed with the writing in Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley and how quickly she made me feel like I understood the main character Daunis. She's being pulled in many different directions. Her relationships with her family and friends are complicated and real. Her devotion to her mother and grandmother is inspiring and refreshing. As a graduating senior she yearns to live her life and attend the college she has dreamed of, but she's also pulled toward staying with the family who needs her. I wanted to keep reading and see where her journey took her. I know it won't be where she thinks it will.

It's such an important story, and we need more young adult own voices stories from Native Americans. The cover is beautiful, as well. It's what caught my attention first. I look forward to picking this one up and finishing it!
