Thank you Bookish First for the debut novel Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley.

A young, Native American woman is submerged into a FBI drug investigation. She learns the hard way that everyone she knows and loves is hiding things from her, good and bad. She must quickly find answers for the FBI before more people, and her entire community, get hurt.

This is not my normal genre of reading but I am so glad I won this novel.

Boulley's own heritage helps build this story and adds tradition and description you can't get from research. The native american references and languages of the story were my favorite aspects as I enjoy learning of cultures and histories that I am unaware of.

I grew to love being inside the mind of Daunis, the main character. Her coming-of-age story is full of difficulties and challenges, especially while she's involved in an investigation. While she's not making lists of her own, you begin making lists to keep events straight. There is so much to tie into her story, there's no way to guess what happens next.

I recommend this novel to older teens, young adults and all women that need the space and freedom to feel one hundred emotions at the same time.
