Although at first I though that the Prologue was a little vague, I was immediately gripped by the premise. The first-person point of view acts as an advantage and supplies to the author's immersive writing style. The protagonist, Daunis' personality shines through, and the author dies a good job of balancing descriptions and explanations with dialogue.
The story is rich with beautiful cultural references and I personally, as a person who was initially completely unfamiliar to the traditions and people, found it filled with warmth and respect.
I felt endeared to the protagonist, her family members and even other side characters. All of them had such realistic, well fleshed-out back stories.
There are layers upon layers of complex theme, including racism, stereotypes against cultures and ethnicties, and drug abuse.
I can't wait to see where the story is going , and with the cliffhanger where u left the story, I have high expectations for this book.
