Firekeeper's Daughter is about Daunis, a teenage biracial unenrolled tribal member. Daunis strikes me as sharp and loving, the kind of girl who keeps her eyes open and wants better for everyone around her. Between a grandmother in the hospital, a recently deceased uncle, and a drug-abusing ex chasing after her best friend, Daunis has a lot weighing on her.

One bright spot in her life is Jamie: The newest member of her brother's hockey team. Chatting while running together, Daunis and Jamie quickly become friends. In telling Jamie about herself and her community, Daunis also teaches the reader about Ojibwe culture, Sault Ste. Marie, and the UP (Upper Peninsula).

Firekeeper's Daughter got off to a bit of a slow start for me, but after hitting the 15% mark, I won't be putting it down.

I think the cover is beautiful and love its intricacies.
