Own voices is such a powerful thing. I feel like I can respect fiction coming from someone who can reflect and use their voice and experiences. Everything about this book is beautiful. That cover is beautiful, the writing is gorgeous and the plot has me wanting to read and know more. There's devastation and even some romance thrown in. I honestly would not have guessed this was Angeline Boulley's debut novel. I got Angie Thomas vibes from this book and I can see why it was blurbed as being for fans of Thomas. I don't feel like I read enough books by Indigenous authors. This book checks off so many boxes for me for goals that I want for 2021 reading.
