Surprisingly good!
Firekeepers Daughter tells the story of a mixed Native teen who is struggling to find her way amidst family trauma, budding romance, and teenage life. The passage immediately starts off with heart-pounding drama, then does an amazing job developing the characters. I especially liked how the author combined Ojibwe language into the story in an organic way.
The jacket cover also does a good job of communicating the Duanis' dual identity between being Native and French and entices the reader to pick up the story. I can't wait to read more!
