From the first page, without context, you're drawn in at the mention of a gun and multiple players (none of whom are specified), including a girl thinking of her mother. This immediately transitions into Daunis and her methodical way of approaching life - running five miles and naming each muscle as she does so. It's a strong introduction to the Fontaines, and I look forward to reading more.
