This is a book everyone will be talking about in the near future, not only from the colorful and eye-catching cover art, but because of its recent acquisition by the Obamas' Higher Ground production company.

I like that Daunis is a smart, no holds barred, opinionated female protagonist but she still struggles to find her place between her hometown and the nearby Ojibwe reservation. The writing is descriptive and flowing, and I love the use of her Native language. Daunis knows she will never please both sides of her family but she can only try to do what she thinks is right. I can't wait to see where the story heads and learn what happens in this much needed YA thriller.
