Unique and Vivid True Story
A true, and heartbreaking, story of families stuck in Mosul during intense times, fighting to survive and keep the zoo animals alive.
This book reads almost like a novel, with vivid dialogue and descriptions. Yet there is enough information to have a more news-like feel, as well. The action ramps up in the last half of the book, but it was all pretty fascinating for this Western reader.
I could have done without the dozen or so swear words, and though I love animals and hate to see them suffer, I believe humans are of more value than they. There is also a shameful plotting of a boy to "get a girl into bed," though not much more was said than that.
However, I was made aware of so much suffering and fear here, that I am moved to pray for these people.
