Let's start with the cover. Is it eye-catching? Yes, of course. I mean, it features a photo of a lion. Animals always catch my eye.
This is my first book by Louise Callaghan, whom is an award-winning journalist. Father of Lions is true story of the evacuation of the Mosul Zoo.
While it is a true story, it is told through multiple narratives, which makes it read more like a novel. I appreciated that.. it kept my interest and made it easier for me to keep reading. We meet a few characters starting with - Abu Laith the zookeeper, Simba the lion cub, and Lula the bear.
The book covers a tough, emotional, powerful time. BUT it also features some unexpected humor which is fabulous.
