Sloane Harlow starts by setting the scene of a dreary and oppressive Georgia day that perfectly matches how the main character is feeling inside. I enjoyed the atmospheric start. The first two chapters set us up to know the story will be filled with regret of past actions, the mystery of what happened from those actions, and a blooming relationship that should not happen. The writing style allows for a quick read that keeps the story moving forward, making you want to continue to see what will be revealed next.

YA stories have a way of being able to evoke gut wrenching emotion as we delve into the world of the main character. There is an honesty in the characters emotions. Perhaps because they have not yet been jaded by life and there is still that feeling of hope. I am looking forward to immersing myself in Ella’s story to find out what happened and where she goes from here.
