Okay, I no longer fall into the YA reader group. However, "Everything We Never Said" by Sloan Harlow had my attention from the first page to the end of the "sneak peek" on page 17. Ms. Harlow did a wonderful job of describing Ella's first day of her senior year in high school, following the tragic death of her best friend Hayley. To add to Ella's stress, Hayley was killed in a car accident, in which Ella was the driver. Ella is suffering from amnesia and has no recollection of what happened. Her friends and teachers are reaching out to Ellie, but instead of it helping her, it feels like she is suffocating in their acknowledge of her feelings. To added pressure of Sawyer's indifference and downright hostility has made Ella's first day back at school, not that she would like to forget, only to hear from her mother, that Hayley's mother has called and wants Ella to come over to sort through and determine what to do with Hayley's belongings. It will be interesting to see how this plot evolves and how Ella's relationship with Sawyer turns from foe to more than a friendship.
