I'm not sure how I feel about this one! I'm going to own the fact that the comparison to Colleen Hoover is actually NOT a vote of confidence for me; it gives me concern that we're going to be romanticizing a boy doing terrible things. That said, the chapters give the impression that the book is going to be told in varying perspectives--both chapters are labeled "Ella", so assuming someone else will end up narrating at some point? The initial mystery is set up quickly--the car accident with our lead behind the wheel, the missing body of her best friend, presumed dead based on the violence of the accident. We also meet Sawyer via the opposite of a meet-cute; he pulls her out of the way of a speeding bus, but we know that he is angry with her over the accident, so there's nothing romantic or sweet about this rescue. As a YA novel, this has a promising start--only time will tell if it can live up to the beginning it's laid out.
