Elevate is definitely not one of those books that can be stopped and started often; you have to devote time to reading it through at least once, then go back and reread each section with the purpose of taking notes!

Author Joseph Deitch catches the reader's attention with honest truths without being too wordy. For example, in Part One (Awareness) Deitch writes, "true attention entails looking, listening, and learning without prejudice." Without prejudice. Sounds simple, but try paying attention to something or someone without your preconceived notions getting in the way. It's tough at first, just like learning to actively listen when someone is talking, instead of just waiting for your turn to speak.

This book is one of the few in the "self-help" genre that will actually help you! The sections are divided sensibly, and peppered throughout are wonderful quotes crom various famous people.
