Might Be Helpful For Someone, But Not For Me

Self-help books - for me - are always hit-or-miss. One thing that tends to turn me off from a particular book is when the author seems to have themselves on a pedestal - implying, though not outright saying, that they are better than everyone else. There's the intent to help, true, but I don't like when it comes off as condescending or demeaning. For example, in the preface, I felt that the author came off too strongly: "As a boy...I constantly saw grownups doing dumb and self-defeating things..."

While I'm sure there is some helpful advice hidden in these pages, I don't have the motivation or inclination to dig for it.
